The Yarmouth School Garden was featured in the September 17th edition of The Forecaster.  To celebrate Maine Harvest Week, the Farm-to-School Initiative that educates students about eating locally grown food, students harvested produce, which was used by the School's nutrition program.  The school lunch menu included a freshly picked salad bar, fresh salsa, and pesto crostini made with basil from the garden.

In addition to providing fresh produce for the school lunch program, the garden provides avenues for learning experiences for students of all ages.

American Education Week

In celebration of American Education Week, the Yarmouth Schools are honoring Kim Spencer our 2008 Educator of the Year.  Kim, who was nominated for this prestigious award by her colleagues because of her talent and commitment, is viewed as a champion for teachers.

Kim is a looping teacher for grades two and three at Yarmouth Elementary School where she magically steps into the minds of seven, eight and nine year olds and instantly knows how to engage and motivate them. Using technology and specifically designed instruction, Kim involves her students in varied learning activities in which their voices are heard, their ideas valued and their individual interests respected.
